Shop till you drop like no where else on earth. Close by your Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge cabin rentals you will discover some of the best shopping to be found anywhere. There are quaint shops that beckon you to stroll through on a lazy afternoon to find that special something you may never see again. The area is full of local artisans and craftsmen who are skilled at taking nothing and creating something very special out of it. Have you watched the wood carvers take a left over stump of wood and literally carve a bear or an eagle out of it that makes you marvel at the accuracy of the replication? These lifelike statues appear in the most unlikely spots as decorations welcoming the weary traveler at the entrance to the wooded cabin setting or saluting a happy hello as they enter their cabin. Many artists have chosen the Great Smoky Mountains as their back drop for some of the most beautiful paintings replete with natural setting featuring the local wildlife. Black bears scaling trees, elk roaming the forest, deer grazing in the open fields. There are flea markets that host their visitors in both an indoor and outdoor setting. Vendors abound in these setting as they set their wares up hoping to "make the deal of the century." You can shop in air conditioned comfort and even have lunch when you feel the need to replenish your energy level. The largest group of artisans in North America is located right here in the Great Smokies Arts and Crafts community. Near your Gatlinburg cabin rentals, the 8 mile historic loop was established in 1937 and has been designated as a Tennessee Heritage Arts and Crafts Trail. Watch these artisans whittle, paint, sew, cast, weave and carve. You can see them create original collectible treasures like candles, quilts, brooms, dolls, baskets, pottery, jewelry, ceramics, stained glass, farmable art, oils and watercolors, silversmithing and wearable fashions. There are restaurants, cafes, tea rooms, candy shops and lodging. You won't have trouble with parking and it is all free. There are 3 annual craft shows in downtown Gatlinburg at the Convention Center during the Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter holidays. You can get more information on these craft shows at www.artsandcraftscommunity.com.
