Most stables rent their horses by the hour and have professional, well-trained guides that show you the mountains from a whole different perspective. Riders of all ages are welcome.  Younger children are sometimes asked to ride with a parent, but most over the age of four can ride their own horse.  The guides take special attention to lead these youngsters while allowing them to feel like they are really a rider.

You'll find flyers and coupons at most information areas in the area.  If staying at a Gatlinburg cabin rental or hotel, you are very convenient to the Cades Cove Stables.  This family run stable has been a part of the Cades Cove experience for many years.  If you don't want to ride, you can always take a carriage ride that they send out daily.  Or sit a spell on the porch and rock away a few hours in the beautiful area of Cades Cove.

Pigeon Forge cabin rental or hotel patrons can take a quick trip out to Walden's Creek Stables.  This unique "Wild West" setup is the perfect spot for day of fun.  Start with a ride in the foothills on horse back.  Then when you return to the old western town they will load you into the hay wagons and take you out to the bonfire site where you'll enjoy hotdogs, vegetables, potato chips and drinks.  This hayride is only scheduled on certain days, so check for times and dates.

If you're bringing your own mount, Great Smoky Mountains National Park operates several horse camps and features miles of horse trails.
