Smoky Mountain Fishing
The Smoky Mountains are renowned for their trout fishing.  Great Smoky Mountains National Park offers miles of clear mountain streams waiting to be explored.  Fontana Lake borders the National Park on the North Carolina side and is also a popular "fishing hole."  There are also a number of commercial fishing venues in the region.

A temporary Tennessee or North Carolina fishing license allows the visitor to fish anywhere within the National Park (in either state). A three-day permit costs $10.50.  The National Park does not sell fishing licenses, but they are available in the surrounding towns.  Most area Chambers of Commerce sell them, as well as many local stores and outfitters.

Fishing within the Qualla Boundary Cherokee Indian Reservation requires a $5.00 tribal permit.  (Children under twelve years old can fish free, if accompanied by an adult with a valid permit.)

Maps and guidebooks are available for purchase at any of the National Park Visitor Centers and local stores.  Stop by the National Park Visitor Centers for a free copy of their fishing regulations.
