The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is the most-visited National Park in the United States.  More than ten million people visit each year.

The Park straddles the border between Tennessee and North Carolina.

It is within a day's drive of two-thirds of the nation's population.

The Park covers an area of 520,408 acres.

Elevations range from 840 to 6,643 feet above sea level.

There are over 800 miles of trails within the Park, including a 70-mile segment of the Appalachian Trail.

The higher elevations may receive over 90 inches of rainfall yearly.

The National Park is an International Biosphere Reserve, because of the extensive variety of plant life here.

More than 100 species of native trees grow here (as many species as on the entire continent of Europe).

1,300 varieties of flowering plants grow in the Smokies.
